Big Breakfast Diet: Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz
Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz, of the Hospital de Clinicas in Caracas, Venezuela is a leading exponent of the big breakfast diet as a tool to combat obesity.
Indeed, Dr. Jakubowicz has used such a diet with great success for 15 years.
Her work has come to attention in recent weeks due to her poresentation at the Endocrine Society's annual meeting in San Francisco. During the meeting she presented her findings of an 8 month study that targeted 94 obese, inactive women.
Alongside colleagues based in the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Dr.Jakubowicz compared a high-carb and protein "big breakfast" diet with a traditional low-carb offering. Both diets were low calorie and low fat, but differed in thei carbohydrate content.
Dr. Jakubowicz found that after 8 months the big breakfast diet subjects had lost an average of 21 percent of their body weights. The low-carb group in comparison lost a mere 4.5 percent.
What is startling is that up until 4 months both groups had had similars weight losses, but after that point the big breakfast group continued to lose weight, whilst the low-carbohydrate group started to put weight back on.
